Greg Gutjahr

Greg Gutjahr started playing guitar at the age of 16 and developed a passion for songwriting. Elements of classical, rock, funk and jazz can be heard in many of his original songs. He plays bass, guitar, drums, piano, and sings.

Greg focused the most on bass guitar and soon formed an original groove-rock band called OCD, which played venues in NJ and NYC. During those years, Greg studied upright bass at County College of Morris, then continued to study music at Montclair State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

Johnny Rock’s cousin Gary DeNunzio introduced him to Greg in 1996. By 2009, Johnny discovered that Greg had moved into his neighborhood, and the two started the first of many jam sessions. In 2013 Johnny Rock recorded and mixed six of Greg’s songs at The Tantrum Room, with Johnny laying down drums, percussion, and background vocals. Max Feinstein and Andrew Reynolds contributed guitar parts, and Jonathan Bross served as the co-mastering engineer at Sound Over Sound.

In 2014, Greg returned to SOS to play bass guitar and co-write “The Tidal Track” with Johnny Rock, Anthony Nardino, Joseph Nardino, and Max Feinstein. Greg’s skills also led to the arrival of an upright bass at Sound Over Sound, which he played on “It’s Been A While” by Anna Sirota and Andrew Reynolds (the version of the song with Greg’s part is available as a bonus track).
